Days after Justice KS Radhakrishnan, one of the two Supreme Court judges handling the Sahara case, said that the bench faced tremendous pressure while dealing with the proceedings, the other judge has recused himself from the trial. Justice JS Kehar did not give any reason for the recusal. The Chief Justice has now set up a separate bench for this matter. According to reports, the request for recusal was received before May 7.

Earlier this week, at a felicitation ceremony in his honour, Justice Radhakrishnan had revealed that there was tremendous pressure on both him and Kehar. "There are matters pending with the court, but the pressure, tension and strain both of us have undergone is unimaginable. I can't explain," he had said. Justice Radhakrishnan, who will be retiring during the summer vacation of the Supreme Court, said that the pressure was even felt by his family. "The pressure was reflected on my wife and family. I can't speak much on the Sahara case," he had said.
Justice Radhakrishnan and Justice Kehar have dismissed several pleas for release by Subrata Roy, the chief of Sahara Group of companies. Roy is in jail for contempt of court after he ignored the apex court's summons over an alleged fraud case, where he is accused of having raised over Rs 20,000 crore from investors through illegal means.
Following complaints from investors, market regulator SEBI had asked Sahara to refund the money, which the company ignored saying that the case did not fall under its jurisdiction.
