R Sreesankar, Head-Institutionall Equities at Prabhudas Lilladher told CNBC-TV18, "FMCG space per se is extremely rich in terms of valuations. While earnings growth is going to be there, the benefit of lower commodity prices should feel through in terms of margins for these companies. What is disturbing though is in terms of the consumption pattern. The challenges or the headwinds that a lot of these companies are seeing in the rural space and if the rabi harvesting season effectively the product prices, drop in yields etc and if it is an indication, there is going to be headwinds in the entire space and I don't think Hindustan Unilever will be exempted in the near-term from that."
At 14:23 hrs Hindustan Unilever was quoting at Rs 958.40, down Rs 15.90, or 1.63 percent. It has touched an intraday high of Rs 977.95 and an intraday low of Rs 951.10.
